HYDRILLA 2007

THE FIGHT TO SAVE LAKE CONROE CONTINUES

It's 2007 and the hydrilla is back!  The TPWD and SJRA continue to take a wait and see approach by only putting in a minimal amount of small White Amur at each stocking.  At the rate they are adding the fish, Lake Conroe will be covered in hydrilla like it was in the early 1980s.  Instead of acting when the hydrilla infestation first reared it's ugly head, the SJRA and TPWD sat on their hands and let it grow.

At this point, the hydrilla growth is exploding.  If you don't believe it, take a ride in Lewis Creek or Little Lake Creek.  Be prepared to clear your propeller frequently since the hydrilla can and will cause your engine to burn up.

We need more White Amur in Lake Conroe and we need them NOW.  There is no way that the current population is going to be able to control, much less eliminate the hydrilla to 40 acres in the national forest area by the proposed March 2008 goal.  Hydrilla grows too fast for these small fish to keep up.

Do you have hydrilla growing around your dock?  Have you been forced to jump into the lake to clear hydrilla from your propeller or worse.....your intake on your jet ski?  Have you been out on the lake and experienced the limited access to parts of the lake?

The purpose of this site is to allow a forum for frustrated Lake Conroe residents to voice their concerns and suggestions.  Please send in your current pictures of hydrilla  in and around your area.  Information regarding this site will be sent to law-makers and policy-makers who impact our lake.  They will be encouraged to visit this site often.

Please, spend some time and write to our lawmakers, newspapers, tv stations and the Commissioners who actually have the power to do something to save Lake Conroe.  Send pictures and explain how the SJRA and TPWD are allowing our lake to become unusable!

Click here to go to the contacts page.  EVERYONE needs to be writing to the Conroe Courier and all the public officials.  There shouldn't just be a handful of people making noise.  This lake is home to thousands of people as well as many more that come out to enjoy it each week!  Let's hear your voices too!

Please visit our photos of area subdivisions and infestations on the lake!
