Hydrilla Petition Drive Update: Many thanks to everyone that signed the petitions! It is our hope that upon receiving the thousands of signatures, the Governor will take action. The petitions are being sent to Governor Perry, Chris Bell, Carole Keeton Strayhorn, Kinky Friedman as well as the TPWD Commissioners.
Do you have hydrilla growing around your dock? Have you been forced to jump into the lake to clear hydrilla from your propeller or worse.....your intake on your jet ski? Have you been out on the lake and experienced the limited access to parts of the lake?
Last year many of us attended a public meeting to discuss the "plan" to reintroduce White Amur into Lake Conroe. It was heavily attended by the various bass fishing associations. The SJRA and TPWD allowed an open forum following their presentation. Many, many people spoke to the fact that the proposed 4300 White Amur was not nearly enough fish to control the hydrilla growth. Yet, the SJRA and TPWD did exactly what they wanted to do.....put in a minimal amount of fish and then take a "sit back and watch the hydrilla growth explode" approach.
We need more White Amur in Lake Conroe and we need them NOW. Can you imagine what this lake will look like in 3 months? 6 months??
We have had several people over the years try to work with the SJRA and the TPWD to keep Lake Conroe a well balanced and safe boating, fishing and swimming lake. But really......it is up to ALL of us to speak out to our law-makers, the SJRA, TPWD, Governor Perry, Attorney General Abbott and whoever else will listen. This is YOUR lake! Make your voices heard!
The purpose of this site is to allow a forum for frustrated Lake Conroe residents to voice their concerns and suggestions. We also hope to have a page where you can post pictures of your hydrilla infestation. Information regarding this site will be sent to law-makers and policy-makers who impact our lake. They will be encouraged to visit this site often.
Please, spend some time and write to the following people. Send pictures and explain how the SJRA and TPWD are allowing our lake to become unusable!
